Nick Shiambouros returns to the tipping chair with two selections from Southwell...
"He has steadily come down in the weights, and could surprise at a decent price"
Magic Applause should go close for trainer George Scott.
This filly beat Connery in a Lingfield maiden on the turf in June. She took the lead inside the final furlong and held on well to score in determined fashion. She disappointed on her next start, but that run is best forgotten as something was clearly amiss. I think this lightly raced individual has more to offer, and is fairly priced at [4.5] on the exchange.
Crystal Deauville is the second choice at [4.7]. She won a seller at Lingfield last Saturday and comes in to this race in good order. She has to improve to trouble the selection, and is a little short in the market in my opinion.
I am going to take a chance with Clergyman in this classified stakes.
This gelding finished second to Major Valentine at Catterick in April. He ran on strongly in the closing stages and was gaining on the winner close home. On his previous start over this course he was not disgraced behind Viva Verglas. He has steadily come down in the weights, and could surprise at a decent price. At present he is trading at [13.0] on the exchange which is more than fair.
Declamation must be respected. He finished a good second to First Excel over this course earlier this month. This was his first run since July and is entitled to come on for the run. At present he is trading at [3.95].
