Bets of the Day: Fascinating Rock to show his class at Windsor

Fascinating Rock beaten a neck by Al Kazeem
Fascinating Rock beaten a neck by Al Kazeem

Disappointed not to get paid yesterday after both selections were well backed but failed to produce. A busy Saturday though and Alan has three to go with at Windsor, Redcar and Cartmel...

"the horse that finished 8th behind Australia in last year's Derby takes his place in this Group three event at Windsor."

Back Fascinating Rock @ 2.6413/8 on the Exchange - 18:35 Windsor

18:35 Windsor - Fascinating Rock @ 2.6413/8 Exchange

Fascinating Rock runs at Windsor this evening and if Dermot Weld's charge is fit, even with a penalty he must have the beating of these. He has proved he can go well fresh winning twice before after a lengthy time away from the track and I am sure he wouldn't be here if they didn't think he was ready.

We last seen the four year old colt narrowly being beaten by multiple group one winner Al Kazeem at the Curragh in the Tattersalls Gold Cup in May, where he had Postponed and the Grey Gatsby behind him that day. Today the horse that finished 8th behind Australia in last year's Derby takes his place in this Group three event at Windsor.

His biggest trouble could come from the Michael Stoute yard in the shape of Cannock Chase, who was well beaten in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Ascot in June, beaten that day by another one of Dermot Welds charges, Free Eagle and there is also a form line to the Grey Gatsby who was five and half lengths ahead of Cannock Chase that day.

Fascinating Rock's form is 'rock' solid and a reproduction of his last run, I think will see him in the winner's enclosure tonight.

18:50 Redcar - Karaka Jack @ 5.04/1 Exchange

Karaka Jack is back to defend his crown and is running off a mark that is 6lb lower than when he won a better class contest here over this distance back in October. Jim Goldie's dual Redcar winner has been running in better quality races recently than this and the booking of Graham Lee is also noteworthy.

It's a competitive handicap and the favourite Zareem is looking for his fourth win in a row but he has been pushed up another 7lbs by the handicapper and is now 19lbs higher than when he started this winning sequence. Richard Fahey also has the top two rated in the race, Our Boy Jack looks his best but has a 5lb penalty to carry for his win last time out.

I am happy to side with Karaka Jack at the weights to win this race for the second year in a row.

14:40 Cartmel - Morning With Ivan 8/1 each way Sportsbook

Martin Todhunter is running his five year old mare Morning With Ivan over 2m 6f for the first time at a track that she obviously likes, winning and finishing third on her last two appearances. While the mare has never gone this far before, she was staying on last time out when finishing sixth of 13 at Bangor over 2m 3f on good ground.

She is also entered to run over the same trip here on Monday in a better quality race than this, but I suspect that conditions and the opposition today give her the best chance. All her winning form is on soft and good to soft, so providing she gets the trip at 8/1 I think she is worth an each way flutter.
