After a profitable Cheltenham Nick Shiambouros returns with two selections from Newbury and Sedgefield...
"I think she will be suited by the shorter trip, and is better than the bare form suggests"
Back Birch Vale in the 14:20 at Sedgefield
14:00 Newbury - Euxton Lane
Euxton Lane should go very close in this interesting novices' hurdle.
This gelding was most impressive when beating The Cannister Man at Fontwell earlier this month. He swept to the front two flights from home, and pulled clear to win without being asked a question. This likeable individual is improving at a rate of knots, and should not be inconvenienced by the extra yardage. At present he is trading at 2.8615/8 which is more than fair.
De Rasher Counter is the obvious danger. He faced better the last twice, and has proven form over the trip. He sets the standard, but I think the selection will improve past him. At present he is trading at 3.02/1 on the exchange.
14:20 Sedgefield - Birch Vale
Birch Vale is my idea of the winner of this mares only event.
After finishing a respectable second in a bumper last December, she made her hurdles debut at Newcastle where she finished fourth behind Petticoat Tails. She was headed on the run to the second last and weakened quickly out of contention. I think she will be suited by the shorter trip, and is better than the bare form suggests. At present she is trading at 5.04/1 on the exchange and have backed her at that price.
Raised On Grazeon heads the market at 2.962/1. She beat Off The Hook easily at Newcastle last month, but does have to carry a double penalty. I am not certain she can give the weight away and looks short enough.
