Bets of the Day: Hollies Pearl can shine again at Chepstow

Hollies Pearl to make it three out of three at Chepstow
Hollies Pearl to make it three out of three at Chepstow

Alan Thompson is back in the hot seat for the next seven days and is hoping to get off to a flyer with some jump action from Chepstow and Market Rasen...

"She gets in here on what could be a very lenient mark of 124, she has proven form here at Chepstow, winning on her previous two starts at the track and the drop back to two miles three furlongs will also be in her favour"

Peter Bowen's six-year-old mare was last seen on a racecourse in November where she was sent off the 2/5 (1.4) favourite for a Novice hurdle race over two miles five furlongs at Warwick. Despite trading as short as 1.041/25 in running that day she could only finish second. The horse she was beaten off, Rene's Girl, has since come out and won again, giving weight away to all her rivals she ran out an easy six lengths winner being eased down at the line.

Hollies Pearl has won three bumpers, one of which was listed class on the final day of the Grand National festival at Aintree, and a novice hurdle prior to her defeat and I think she deserves another chance here with the first time blinkers. She gets in here on what could be a very lenient mark of 124, she has proven form here at Chepstow, winning on her previous two starts at the track and the drop back to two miles three furlongs will also be in her favour.

14:55 Market Rasen - Silver Eagle @ 7.613/2 Exchange

Silver Eagle is a big imposing grey, son of Presenting, who finished second in his only start in an Irish Point to Point. Kim Bailey's eight-year-old gelding ran nine times over hurdles winning twice and was placed on a further four occasions, reaching a mark as high as 134 and running in some pretty decent company.

However, this horse is every inch a chaser and it was eye catching to see him being very well supported in the market on his chasing debut after over 600 days off the course. He failed to deliver that day and was well beaten, looking very much like he needed the run, I expect a bit more from him today. He is running off what could be a very favourable mark of 112, but he will have to show more than he did last time out.
