We quickly move on to the third day of the York Ebor Festival, and here with their three selections is the Follow The Money team...
Starting with the seven furlong City Of York Stakes (15:05) where So Beloved has been a warm order all morning, which has seen his price contract from 13.10 in to 8.88/1. The David O'Meara trained gelding is a course and distance winner and should appreciate the drop in class from his last outing behind The Gurkha in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood. He didn't run a bad race that day, finishing just over four lengths behind Sunday's Jacques le Marois winner Ribchester and we feel the return to seven furlongs will be ideal for our selection this afternoon. The market confidence suggests he will run a big race and we fully expect him to at least reach a place.
For our negative selection of the day we look no further than Limato in the Nunthorpe (15:40) who has drifted out to 5.24/1 from an opening 3.65. We believe that it will be worth taking on the Henry Candy trained July Cup winner, as this will be first attempt at the minimum trip and he faces a huge task today against a big field of specialists at this distance. His opponents include Profitable, who is fancied to overturn Newmarket form with Limato over the shorter trip, Easton Angel who has won two listed races at five furlongs this season and the juvenile Yalta who won the Molecomb in good style last time out, even the veteran Sole Power - who always runs well here - cannot be discounted. We feel that Limato will be hard pressed to reach the frame today, and we do not hesitate in recommending a place lay.
For our main win bet we go for Black Trilby in the Convivial Maiden Stakes (16:20). He has been well supported from 13.012/1 in to 6.86/1. The twice raced colt was staying on well in a big field of maidens at Goodwood on his last outing, getting within a length of Lockhead, who boosted the form when running a cracking race to finish third in yesterday's Acomb Stakes. The market indicates that there is a lot of improvement to come from the Clive Cox trained two year old, who is obviously well thought of (he has a Royal Lodge Stakes entry), therefore we advise a win bet on this selection.
So Beloved each-way @ 8.88/1 15:05 York
Limato lay place @ 2.285/4 15:40 York
Black Trilby win @ 6.86/1 16:20 York
