Welcome to today's Follow The Money which focuses on the National Hunt meetings at Exeter and Wetherby.
We start off today's action in the 14:00 at Exeter and Ian Williams' Perfect Summer is an uneasy favourite for the opener, drifting from 2.89/5 out to 3.185/40. The major worry here is the way she raced last time out when she looked reluctant to race during the closing stages and despite Richard Johnson getting a call up today, it is not a favourable quality to have when punters are being offered skinny returns. She faces some relatively unexposed rivals today as well as the consistent Mother Meldrum and she looks worth taking on with questions about her attitude still in place.
Next up is our each-way selection and in the very next race the 14:30 at Exeter, Lookslikerainted has seen considerable support from 17.5 in to 13.012/1. A fair performer for Rebecca Curtis last season he has since joined Sophie Leech and has run fairly averagely since the switch. There is some hope however, having run respectably on his last couple of hurdles outings and a further dip in his handicap mark is sure to benefit. The ground should be ideal for the selection and he is taken to run well for a yard finding a bit of form in what looks a weak race.
Finally we have our back selection which races over at Wetherby in the 16:55 and Sue Smith's Wolf Sword has been a huge market mover, shortening from an opening 7.06/1 in to 3.211/5. Despite not showing much over jumps so far in his career, he starts out for Sue Smith's yard today having left George Moore and market confidence looks really significant and suggests progress has been made. A useful hurdler, over which he maintains a mark of 115, he could well be thrown in if taking to his jumping better after the switch off of a mark of just 108. The money looks too significant to ignore and a back has to be advised.
