Today's Follow The Money comes from day one of the Ebor meeting at York...
Starting with the 15:05 Group 2 over 1m4f, where Bondi Beach has been well supported in to 5.14/1 from 6.611/2. The selection has surprised a few this season having not previously being considered to be among Aidan O'Brien's leading lights. He continued on his upward curve last time at the Curragh when short-heading better fancied stable mate Order Of St George to claim a Group 3 over 2f further. Storm the Stars has the impressive Derby form in the book but Bondi Beach - who is Ryan Moore's best bet of the day - can give him something to think about if handling this drop in trip.
In the feature Group 1 Juddmonte Stakes over 1m2f at 15:40, Gleneagles has been easy to back, wandering out to a price of 6.611/2 from 4.216/5. Aidan O'Brien's late decision to run here adds another dimension to the race and it is impossible to fault what he has achieved this year. As an emphatic 2000 Guineas and Royal Ascot winner he fully deserves to take his chance but there have to be doubts over whether this test will suit and the all-conquering Golden Horn also stands in his way. He is stepping out of three-year-old company for the first time here over further and may be found wanting against more battle-hardened opponents. It looks like good ground on the Knavesmire at the moment but there have been showers in the area and any cut in the ground would do Gleneagles no favours. While there is stamina in his pedigree, the speed he has shown thus far will worry some for this step up beyond a mile and so a lay in the place market at 1.75/7 makes plenty of appeal.
Finally to the closing 16:55 6f Nursery event where there been some interest in Whitman, backed into 9.08/1 from 11.25. Mark Johnston's colt has it all to do off top weight, having been raised 12lb for a Nottingham win on handicap debut, but this highly regarded juvenile could prove equal to the task. He made all at Nottingham, holding off the even-money favourite to score by two lengths, so if getting to the head of affairs again he is likely to prove difficult to pass. The yard's recent success in this division has been well documented and the selection has been entered for the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes so if possessing that level of ability he will probably be too good for this field.
