It's day two of the Royal meeting at Ascot and the Follow The Money team have two back selections and a suggested lay on what promises to be a terrific afternoon of racing...
Our lay of the day comes in the opening race, the Jersey Stakes due off at 14:30. Having been matched as low as 2.56/4, Ivawood now trades at 2.942/1.
Having been placed in Classics on his last two outings there is no doubt that he brings the strongest form into the race and the return to 7f looks ideal as he has plenty of speed. However as a dual Group 2 winner as a 2yo he must carry a 5lb penalty today and that levels the playing field somewhat. Dangers are headed by Bossy Guest who is weighted to beat Ivawood on Guineas form and Fadhayyil, who returns to a more suitable trip having looked a non-stayer in the 1,000 Guineas and gets a handy sex allowance.
Onto the Queen Mary Stakes at 15:05 where Delizia has been backed into 11.521/2 from a high of 14.013/1.
This filly improved on her debut win at Wolverhampton to land a Listed race at York last time out, a race which has thrown up Queen Mary winners in the past such as Gilded (2006), Langs Lash (2008) and Ceiling Kitty (2012) as well as last year's runner up and subsequent Chevely Park winner Tiggy Wiggy. Delizia's trainer Mark Johnston has his juveniles in good order (9-34 this month) and saddled a 1-4-5 in yesterday's Coventry. At a good price Delizia can go close today.
We finish with the Sandringham Handicap at 17:35 where Always Smile has been nicely backed into 3.65 from an early 4.47/2.
This Godolphin-owned filly made a successful switch from the all-weather to turf last time out at Doncaster to keep her unbeaten record intact. The second and third from that race have both won easily since and with the prospect of more improvement to come, she can defy an 11lb hike in the weights and win again today.
