Wednesday's Follow The Money features the meetings at Warwick, Chepstow and Fairyhouse this afternoon...
We get started early with a lay in the 12:10 at Fairyhouse. An intriguing maiden hurdle features two strongly backed Gigginstown prospects. Rather than split the pair, a lay on the Willie Mullins-trained Aussie Reigns at 3.8514/5 is recommended. A former classy stayer on the flat in the UK, he was rated as high as 105 at his peak, was a Listed winner and Group placed. Yet for all that, after 44 starts on the level, he seems an unlikely sort to take high rank over hurdles at this late stage. He has walked out in the market from an opening 2.01/1, with the softening winter ground surely a huge negative for a first time jumper who loves to hear his hooves rattle and has a long absence to overcome.
We move across to Chepstow for our each-way selection, namely Mister Big in the novices' hurdle at 12:50. He has attracted good support from 10.519/2 down to 7.413/2, with good money matched at all rates. The betting suggests he has two to beat, but the favourite Garo De Juilley doesn't set an exacting standard based on his fifth on hurdling debut last month, while the second in Utility has not gone on since winning a weak bumper last season. Mister Big admittedly has a long absence to overcome himself, but he was a promising fifth in a bumper on his only racecourse outing thus far - and all four of the horses that finished ahead of him have scored in the meantime. This half brother to top class chaser Somersby must surely be competitive if his fitness levels are up to scratch.
Finally, for our win selection, we take a look at the 15:15 at Warwick, where the market is speaking favourably for the favourite Yanmare. Early offers of 4.94/1 have long gone and now he trades around the 3.55 mark. Having previously been a winning Irish pointer, he joined the Nigel Twiston-Davies yard for a not inconsiderable sum in 2015. However, he conspired to sow absolutely no ability in two hurdles and two chases up until June of this year. Yet, returning from a break last month he found himself running from the lowly mark of 74, and duly won nicely having been well found in the market. A ten pound rise makes things tougher, but the money has arrived again suggesting it won't prove insurmountable.
