Today's Follow The Money comes from the meetings at Hamilton and Brighton...
Venus Marina is the best backed horse of the day, now trading at 3.45 from an early 6.25/1 in the 14:30 at Brighton. There has been a tide of support for her and if the market is to be believed she can bring a lot of love to her supporters today. The drop in trip, from seven to six furlongs might be the key to her chance as she has often pulled hard over longer distances. It is expected that she will ridden aggressively over today's shorter distance by the course's leading rider, George Baker, and she can score for her in-form trainer Chris Wall.
On to the 16:15 at Hamilton, where Jubilee Brig has strengthened from 8.5015/2 in to 5.04/1. He has to have things drop right and often finishes with plenty of running to give but he has joined the shrewd Alan Swinbank yard and returns to his optimum trip of six furlongs today, over which he has won five of 17 starts. There are three front runners in opposition, so a strong pace to aim at looks assured and he can overwhelm the opposition with a strong finish.
We return to the Brighton and the 17:30 for our lay, Ecliptic Sunrise, who has been very weak in the betting, drifting from 1.9210/11 out to 2.588/5. She took a long time to break her duck but having done so is in the form of her life, winning two and finishing running up in the other of her last three starts. However she is some 18lb higher in the handicap now and, despite the small field, there are plenty of viable alternatives including Ada Lovelace and Caso Do Lago who have both attracted support. The fast ground is also a concern as both her wins came on easier going and we're happy to take her on at a short price.
