Welcome to today's Follow The Money selections, which feature all three of this afternoon's meetings at Wolverhampton, Southwell and Hexham...
Our first pick comes from Wolverhampton, in the 14:20 1m Hcap where Toymaker has been very well backed this morning, from 3.8514/5 in to 2.915/8. Although a low grade fare, this race looks very competitive and a case can be made for over half the field. However, Toymaker is the one that seems to make the most appeal in the market. He has won a couple of times over this trip on the old surface here in early 2014. He now lurks on a very dangerous mark, 16lb lower than for the second of those wins, and has been hinting at a revival of late. He was a creditable third of six in a handicap at Chelmsford last time out, and with Adam Kirby booked to take the ride today he is definitely capable of scoring in this one.
We move to Southwell for our next selection and our lay of the day. It comes in the 15:10 2m4f Nov Hcap Chs where Worthy Award has drifted from 3.11 out to 3.7511/4 this morning. This looks set to be an interesting race with many boasting genuine claims including Worthy Award who won an Irish maiden point in 2013, albeit on his fourth attempt, and has since followed that up with three runs over hurdles where he showed glimpses of significant ability, although you would think he will need to offer more than on his most recent outing, where he was fourth of 12 on his handicap debut at Exeter in October, if he is to score here. He makes his chasing debut today with AP McCoy on board, but our preference is heading towards market rivals Normadic Storm and the ever reliable Royal Macnab.
Our final selection of the day is from Hexham. It comes in the 15:35 3m1f Hcap Chs where there has been strong support for Apache Pilot, who has shortened from 6.411/2 in to 4.67/2. A lightly raced seven-year-old who got off the mark with a fairly convincing win at Newcastle 10 days ago after three months off. He remains unexposed in this sphere but has to be respected with just a 5lb penalty today. He should have more to offer yet and if he can be more fluent in his jumping he will be very tough to beat in this one.
