Today's Follow The Money focuses on the second day at York's Ebor Festival...
We start off with today's lay and Mark Johnston's Lumiere has taken an alarming drift in the 14:30, from an early 2.0811/10 out to 3.185/40. She was visually very impressive when sauntering clear in a fillies maiden stakes but the worry is how strong that form actually is. Although very eye-catching the depth of the race has to be questioned and some of today's rivals are bringing proven Group form to the table.
Un-questionably Lumiere looks a talent, but she will have to improve for her last run and prove today against some very strong horses that she deserves her place atop the 1000 Guineas Antepost market. The dangers appear to be headed by Group 3 winner Besharah who was extremely impressive at Ascot and Michael Dod's Easton Angel who didn't have much luck in running last time out on a Group 2. Both of their form looks solid and with their credentials at this level proven they look value to have on side against the favourite. All in all a lay has to be recommended at the price.
Our first back of the day runs in the 16:20 and Koora has been the subject of marked support backed in from a high of 12.5 in to 7.26/1. Luca Cumani's filly improved on her promising debut run to land the odds at Doncaster last time over 1m2f and she looks bred to appreciate this step up in trip today. Luca Cumani was amongst the winners yesterday and if the yard is starting to find form then Koora has real potential to improve past her rivals today. With the amount of money starting to come for her she simply has to be paid attention to and a back is the call.
Finally we end in the 16:55 and Roger Varian's Spangled has been steadily backed from 5.23 in to 4.57/2. She left her debut run well behind when getting off the mark easily at Lingfield and she improved again to win a competitive handicap last time at Newmarket, seeing out the 7f trip well to win comfortably in the end. Roger Varian is in good form and looks to have some strong chances on the card today, culminating in this selection. Main market rival Mistrusting looks stout opposition but if we use the way both horses have beaten Wordcraft over 7f as a marker, the three pound pull Spangled receives from Mistrusting today could be a major factor which could see her come out on top today.
