Today's Follow The Money comes from the Tuesday afternoon meetings at Plumpton, Southwell and Ayr...
We begin the day with our each-way back in the 14:35 2m4f Novice Handicap Chase at Ayr where The Orange Rogue has been backed in from a high 15.014/1 into 10.09/1. Although 0-12 under rules, he did show some promise having faded when third last time out at Newcastle and was beaten by just half a length at the same track two starts ago. Dropping down in distance should be welcomed today and he should go close in this open Handicap Chase.
Our lay of the day comes from Southwell in the 14:50 6f Maiden Stakes where Miss Goldsmith who has drifted out from 2.68/5 to 3.55 in looking for her first career win. Although this grey filly has shown some ability in the trio of maidens at Wolverhampton she has run so far, success today will depend heavily on how she takes to the Fibresand for the first time and the performance of her main rival Best New Show, who has shown a consistent level of form in her first four runs. The latter's trainer, David Evans, is in a hot patch of form at the moment with a 29% strike rate in the last 14 days so we are happy to lay Miss Goldsmith.
The back of the day comes in the 15:05 1m7f Handicap Chase at Ayr in the form of Supreme Asset who has been backed in from around 5.95/1 into 4.1. Running his best race in over a year last time out at Leicester in a class 3 chase finishing third on soft ground would seem to show a return in form. Dropping down into a class 4 and down 2lb in the ratings would suggest that Supreme Asset will have a big say today. The return to form for trainer Donald McCain, who has a strike rate of 23% in the last two weeks, is another reason for backing this bay gelding to win outright.
