The markets have been reviewed, and today's three Follow The Money selections come from the meetings at Newcastle, Newmarket, and the Curragh...
We start the day in the 14:10 at Newmarket for our lay Devil's Bridge, who has shifted from 2.111/10 out to 2.546/4. One of only three to have the benefit of a run already it's a slight concern to see how the market has reacted from what was a positive debut. The dangers are obvious however, with the three debutants all representing strong yards and there has also been a gamble on Thomas Cranmer from the Mark Johnston stable, who's runners consistently seem to improve second time out. A competitive field and at the price we're happy to take on this favourite.
Next we head to Newcastle for the Northumberland Plate's debut on the Tapeta surface at 16:15. Gabrial The Hero has been solid in the market after seeing his odds drop from 13.5 in to an available 11.010/1. Trainer Richard Fahey, won this race two years ago with another of today's entries Angel Gabrial, but it looks the smarter move to side with Gabrial The Hero this afternoon. The consistent 7yo has solid form on the all-weather surfaces and enters the race in decent form having finished fourth in the Chester Cup last time out. The two that finished ahead of him that day have more weight on their back in this contest and his experience on the surface could prove pivotal.
Lastly we look at the feature race at the Curragh, where Port Douglas takes his chances in the Irish Derby at 17:20. A string of bets has seen Aidan O'Brien's second string come in from 28.027/1 in to 22.021/1. Excuses can be made for his last outing in the English running of this race when going off far too quickly and ending up at the tail end of the field after being made to set the pace. Blinkers were on that day and they have been removed with cheekpieces making a return, last seen on when nearly upsetting stable mate US Army Ranger in the Chester Vase. This colt is not shy of causing an upset and certainly looks to have potential of a big race win in him, with three places on offer we're happy to put this one up as our each-way wager.
