Follow The Money: A Better bet at Musselburgh

We head to Lingfield for today's win bet
We head to Lingfield for today's win bet

Today's Follow The Money comes from the two remaining afternoon's meetings at Lingfield and Musselburgh.

"Today's trip of 13 furlongs will hold no fears for Ed Dunlop's horse, he comes from a pedigree whose progeny excel over longer distances. Harlestone Hopes is partnered today by in-form Adam Kirby who already has 11 wins this year (22% success rate) and knows his way around this track. All these factors suggest that our selection will be very hard to beat."

Back Definitely Better each-way @ 4.10 in the 13:45 at Musselburgh
Lay Home For Tea @ 4.804/1 in the 15:30 at Musselburgh

Our each-way selection comes from the 13:45 at Musselburgh, where Definitely Better has been steadily backed all morning from an early 7.70 in to 4.10. The Tom George-trained eight-year-old mare had a poor time of it in 2015 but showed a glimmer of recapturing previous good form when finishing an encouraging fifth in a handicap chase at Leicester in November. In 2014 she won twice and was placed three times, showing her best form on conditions similar to today's. Definitely Better has come tumbling down the weights as a result of her lack of success last season and is now 4lb below her best winning mark. This, together with the market confidence, suggests that connections are expecting a big race today. We share this confidence and recommend an each-way wager today.

We move to the Polytrack at Lingfield for our win bet. Harlestone Hopes (in the 14:10) has been a warm order, his price contracting from 5.77 to 3.8514/5. The four-year-old gelding is still a maiden after six attempts but he suggested that a win isn't far away when finishing a head second to Kelly's Finest at Chelmsford last month. The form looks solid as the winner has since finished in second twice since then, in higher class races than today. Harlestone Hopes actually held the lead that day, only to be run out of it in the shadow of the post. Today's trip of 13 furlongs will hold no fears for Ed Dunlop's horse, he comes from a pedigree whose progeny excel over longer distances. He is partnered today by in-form Adam Kirby who already has 11 wins this year (22% success rate) and knows his way around this track. All these factors suggest that our selection will be very hard to beat.

Finally we return to Musselburgh for our lay where Home For Tea has been a significant drifter in the 15:30 race from 3.4012/5 out to 4.804/1. The seven-year-old gelding has yet to win a race after 16 attempts and we feel the lack of support in the market this morning indicates that today will not be the day to lose his maiden tag. The Keith Dalgleish-trained horse was a disappointing favourite last time out when pulling up in a similar contest and we are happy to suggest a lay.
