Today's Follow The Money column concentrates on the afternoon meeting at Leicester.
"In only a four runner affair, Exitas looks smashing value in the 14:45 John O' Gaunt Beginners' Chase."
Our each-way selection comes in the 12:45 Ashby Magna Juvenile Fillies' Hurdle in the form of three-year-old Lucie Rie, trained by Karl Burke. After being matched at a high of 44.043/1, she's been subjected to steady money all morning and is currently trading at 26.025/1. The daughter of high-class flat performer Excellent Art was purchased at the Tattersalls sales in July for £13,000 from Irish based trainer David Wachman. After showing glimpses of promise on the level for previous connections, she was soundly beaten on last month´s hurdle debut at Uttoxeter, but that race was much better than this one and her visor now returns. With her new-found experience, and racing against her own sex, it wouldn't be a surprise if Lucie Rie finds the improvement she needs to land us a winner.
Twelve-year-old veteran Double Chocolate has drifted continuously over the past few hours in the 13:45 Katherine Swynford Handicap Chase over two miles and six furlongs, matched at a low of 2.68/5, he's now 3.814/5 on the machine, making him today's lay. After losing his form in the first half of 2014, he unfortunately sustained a leg injury. Following a prolonged break from the track he returned to winning ways on last month's stable debut at Uttoxeter over three miles on good ground - making most of the running. He's subsequently been put up 9lb and arguably remains well treated on his old form, however this quirky character could potentially suffer from the all too familiar bounce factor.
In only a four runner affair, Exitas looks smashing value in the 14:45 John O' Gaunt Beginners' Chase. The Phil Middleton charge has seen plenty of support, being matched at a high of 20.019/1 he's now down to a more realistic price of 13.012/1. With something to prove having been pulled up on last month's chase debut at Ascot, this 132 rated gelding should make the transition as a chaser. Although this will take a bit of winning, he´s got every chance in this company if he can transfer his best hurdles form to fences.
