Monday's Follow The Money comes from the meetings at Pontefract and Wolverhampton...
First up we head to the Wolverhampton for the 14:15, a handicap over 6f, where Limerick Lord has been well backed, from a high of 7.413/2 to 4.84/1. A winner on the all weather back in February over 5f at Lingfield, he has ran respectably in handicaps since then. He is now dropped back in grade and upped in trip and the market confidence suggests he has every chance today.
Over to Pontefract for today's negative in the 15:00, a Class 2, Conditions Stakes over 6f, where Age of Empire has proved easy to back this morning drifting from 2.6613/8 out to 3.259/4. Gold Medallion, who won impressively last time out and holds an entry into the Group 1 National Stakes, looks to be the main danger. Although the Age of Empires ran credibly when sixth in the Coventry Stakes he may have bumped into a smart contender from the Mark Johnston yard who are having such a good season with his two year old runners.
Our other positive also comes from Wolverhampton in the 15:15, Maiden over 7f, where Majdool has been heavily supported this morning, backed from 2.526/4 in to 1.9110/11. In form trainer Roger Varian has an excellent 31% strike rate (28 winners from 90 runners) at Wolverhampton and this colt is open to more progress after finishing a clear second at Chester in May. That form has been boosted by the winner of that race finishing fourth in the Coventry Stakes next time out, and a back is the call.
Back Limerick Lord at 4.84/1 in the 14:15 at Wolverhampton
Lay Age of Empire at 3.259/4 in the 15:00 at Pontefract
Back Majdool at 1.9110/11 in the 15:15 at Wolverhampton
