Southwell and Kempton are the venues for today's three Follow The Money selections, with a Michael Appleby-trained runner proving very popular in the opening race of the day...
We kick off today's column in the first race at Southwell where the Michael Appleby-trained Marciano has been extremely well backed from 4.57/2 in to 2.789/5. The five-year-old returns to Southwell today after a dominant display over seven furlongs there in February. He ran off a mark of 66 that day with today's 7lbs claimer back on board, this new mark of 75 has not put backers off. Marciano has ran on turf since February's victory and he was extremely disappointing, but it must be noted that other than a Handicap win on soft ground in France he has always disappointed on grass. With a record of 4-3-1 when wearing cheekpieces the return of them is also a nice positive. A back of 2.789/5 is suggested to get the day off to a good start.
Our second back of the day is Voyageofdiscovery who takes his chance over the mile in the 15:20 at Kempton. After running extremely well over the course and distance off this same mark of 80 earlier in the month the Gelding has been backed from a high of 7.413/2 in to 5.49/2. The return to Kempton 12 days ago came on the back of an eight month layoff after a fairly busy campaign last season, therefore the money suggests he may have come on quite a bit for that run. He is usually ridden nearer last than first so if Adam Kirby can deliver him at the right time then a back of 5.49/2 could look quite tasty after the race.
We end with our lay of the day at Southwell. Misu Mac is friendless in the 16:45 6f Handicap after drifting from a low of 3.39 out to a current price of 4.03/1. After recently returning to sprinting this five-year-old mare has been in very good form. Two wins and a runner up spot in the last month at Southwell suggests that connections may have finally uncovered what she needs after running over the mile earlier on in her career. She broke her maiden tag last month before running in back-to-back handicaps (winning one) so far this month. She last won over five furlongs here off a mark of 55. Trainer Neville Bycroft has now decided to step her back up in trip to six furlongs and with the added burden off a 5lbs raise in the weights, layers feel she has already reached her handicap limit.
Back Marciano @ 2.789/5 in the 13:30 Southwell
Back Voyageofdiscovery @ 5.49/2 in the 15:20 Kempton
