The Follow The Money team have three selections from Carlisle and Southwell today

It's the calm before the storm, the Christmas Eve of flat racing, but before we go into battle at Royal Ascot we need to try and swell the betting coffers with today's three Follow The Money selections...

Lay Rasselas @ 3.211/5 in the 15:15 Carlisle

Back Night Generation @ 3.39/4 in the 17:15 Carlisle

Back Ebazan @ 4.84/1 in the 17:30 Southwell

So we start off at Carlisle and our negative of the day, Rasselas in the 15:15 race who won a 1m class 5 event at Newcastle just nine days ago. The trainer's rep had no explanation for the apparent improvement in form other than it may have benefited from stronger handling having been ridden by an apprentice on its previous outing. Whatever the reason for the improvement in Rasselas the market has him down as a negative as his price has drifted from 2.466/4 out to 3.211/5 and the 6lb rise in the weights for that win can't have done him any favours.

We move to the 17:15 at Carlisle for our first positive of the day in the name of Night Generation. A market move from 3.89 in to 3.39/4 sees the selection head our market as the early morning favourite Old Fashion continues to drift from 2.73 out to 3.814/5. Sir Mark Prescott's representative has made the 271 mile journey and it's his only runner of the meeting. Over the last 10 years he has only sent 10 horses to the track with an impressive strike rate of 30%. Night Generation had his first run in Handicap company after being gelded, at Lingfield over a trip of 1m2f, and that day he was beaten seven lengths after being pushed along early on from the stalls. The step up to today's trip of 1m3f will hopefully be the key to his success today and he will strip fitter here.

We switch codes to Southwell and the 17:30 for our last positive of the day. Ebazan has been supported from 12.5 in to 4.84/1. Nico de Boinville take the reins for this Brian Ellison trained horse. De Boinville finds himself in the hot jockey list with three wins from 10 rides in the last 14 days and Ellison has had four winners in the last week. Our Timeform comments for this horse read "Record patchy for Conor O'Dwyer last year. Never a threat on first run for this yard at Wetherby in March but fairly treated on pick of his Irish form and worth a check in betting." Well we have checked the betting and we think today could be his day.
