The markets have been reviewed, and today's three Follow The Money selections come from the meetings at Kempton, Lingfield, and Newcastle...
We start with one of the big races of the day, the Eider at Newcastle (14:50), where there has been steady support at big odds for Cork Citizen, in to 12.011/1 from a high of 19.5. David Pipe has acquired this point-to-point regular from Irish trainer Eugene O'Sullivan, where he won six races from 18 starts. This eight-year-old by Overbury also won one hunter chase from seven starts. Since joining Pipe, Cork Citizen finished a close second over 2m7f at Taunton earlier this month in a handicap chase keeping on at the end. With his unexposed profile and running off the same mark as his last race, Cork Citizen looks a stayer in the making and worth backing EW at 12.011/1.
We head to Lingfield for the Winter Derby at 15:20, where Festive Fare has been on the drift out to 3.55 from a low of 3.09. The four-year-old by Teofilo has notched up three wins in his career so far all at different AW tracks, the most recent win being at Wolverhampton in December in a Class 2 race over 1m1½f. Charlie Appleby's gelding ran again earlier this month, finishing second by half a length over today's C&D. However, in this race Festive Fare was beaten by Grendisar, who is re-opposing today, and was also the even money favourite. Today's race sees connections reach for cheek pieces to bring about some improvement, but with Grendisar in the race and other strong opponents such as John Gosden's new recruit Furia Cruzada to contend with, Festive Fare looks worth taking on at 3.55/2.
Heading to Kempton for our second positive, in the 16:45 Class 3 Handicap Chase there has been noticeable support for Ericht, in to 4.67/2 from a high of 9.89/1. Nicky Henderson's 10-year-old hasn't won a race for just over two years now, however, he has won six races in his career and two of those were at today's track. This gelding by Alderbrook's most recent win was over fences and over today's trip of 2m4f. Ericht's handicap mark has now dropped down to 9lb lower than his last win and connections will be hoping that first time cheek pieces will help see him return to the winners enclosure.
