Boxing Day at Kempton is one of the highlights of the National Hunt season, and the Follow The Money team have three selections for you to consider from today's feature meeting...
We start off in the 13:25 Novice Handicap Chase where Antony has been well backed from 9.78 in to 7.06/1. A useful performer over Hurdles he was hugely impressive last time out at Sandown on his Chase debut, winning well with the style of a horse that could pay to follow. He's up in grade here but given the manner of his victory last time out that may well not be a hindrance. Gary Moore clearly thinks a bit of this Gelding and it looks to be one to keep on the right side of today. An each-way bet is advised at the price.
Today's lay runs in the 14:00 Grade One Novice Chase. Nick Williams' Tea For Two has been on the drift in what looks an intriguing contest, bouncing out from a low of 3.052/1 to 3.412/5. Another hugely impressive winner last time out on his Chasing bow but the worry today seems to be the step up in trip. His past form over hurdles suggests he is better over a shorter distance and three miles today may well stretch him. He takes on some very smart looking performers today, in particular market rival Native River who beat a useful horse in Un Temps Pour Tout last time out. Given the lack of faith in the market and the trip concerns we are happy to take Tea For Two on.
We finish up today on the highlight of the card, the 15:10 King George VI Chase. Gordon Elliott's Don Cossack is seeing continued support making him a strong favourite for the Grade One prize. Opening up at 3.711/4 he is now no bigger than 3.185/40. He was the top rated Chaser in training last season taking in six of his seven runs only falling short at Cheltenham when not getting no luck in the run. He comes here on the back of two easy wins in October against lesser company that at least go some way to prove his well-being and if he turns up in good form, which Gordon Elliott assures us he is, he should take all the beating. All his market rivals have questions to answer (Vautour - Trip Concerns, Cue Card - Never managed to perform to his best in this race, Silviniaco Conti - Well beaten last time out) and he stands out as the one horse with the least to prove. A back bet is advised in what looks to be a cracker of a race.
