Today's Follow the Money comes from the feature races at Kempton, Chepstow and Leopardstown.
We start off with our each-way selection in the 13:55 at Leopardstown where the Jessica Harrington-trained Sunni May has come in for warm support in what looks a very open renewal of this Grade 1 event. The son of Presenting has been impressive this year, winning twice over hurdles and has some strong bumper form in the book from last season behind the likes of Blow by Blow and Invitation Only. This looks a very open race with plenty of unexposed types having very realistic chances but the market seems to suggest that Sunni May can mix it with the best of them at this level and has been backed from 9.6017/2 in to 7.4013/2. With three places we see it hard for our Sunny Mai not to hit at least the frame and recommend backing the five year old at its current trading price of around 6.05/1
Our lay selection comes in the 14:20 at Kempton, the Desert Orchid Chase, where only four go to post. This race centres on the big two in the betting - Special Tiara and Sire De Grugy. The 10lbs the former Champion Chase winner Sire de Grugy must give the Irish raider has appeared to shape the market with Special Tiara now clear favourite while the Gary Moore-trained ten-year-old has taken a walk in the market, drifting from 2.546/4 out to 2.8415/8. Sire de Grugy was involved in an enduring, but fatiguing, Tingle Creek just three weeks ago which may have potentially left a mark on Moore's stable star. Henry de Bromhead, trainer of Special Tiara, opted to skip that race with this in mind and his charge will take all the beating today. We recommend laying Sire De Grugy at his current trading price of 2.89/5.
Our final selection comes in the today's big race the 14:40 at Chepstow, the Welsh National. In unusual conditions to what is normally a sapping stamina test in deep ground, this year will be run in more favourable conditions which sees the star attraction, Hennessey Gold Cup winner Native River take his place. The Colin Tizzard-trained charge looks a genuine Gold Cup contender and the market has seen him being well supported, being backed from 5.24/1 in to 4.03/1. A bold front running bid is expected, stamina will be of no concern to champion jockey Richard Johnson and he will try his best to take others out of their comfort zone. We expect a big performance off top weight and recommend backing Native River to win at 4.003/1
