This afternoon's Follow The Money comes from the meetings at Huntingdon, Cartmel and Leicester...
We start with the 15:10 race at Huntingdon where Captain Canada has been significant backed all morning, which has seen his price contract from 15.014/1 in to 5.85/1. The nine-year old gelding has only had one success in his career - a maiden hurdle in Ireland - and has shown little form in his three races since transferring to Britain (he is reported to have shown signs of breathing problems on his last appearance). He has since moved to Tim Vaughan's yard and we feel that with the change of scenery, together with the market confidence, we will see a much improved performance from Captain Canada and we expect him to be at least placed this afternoon.
We move to Cartmel for our negative selection. In the 16:10 race the top weight Thomas Wild has been easy to back this morning, his price drifting from 2.77 out to 3.953/1 and we feel it is worth opposing the Philip Hobbs' eleven year-old. He won well enough on his last appearance - a handicap chase at Stratford, but carries a five pound penalty for that victory which brings him up to his highest career mark and we feel there are more attractive betting prospects among his rivals, so we recommend a place lay on this horse at 1.574/7
We turn to Leicester for our main win selection. In the 16:25 race, Taneen has been a warm order and his price is now trading at 3.9 from an early 5.14/1. This is the first handicap race for the Roger Varian-trained three year-old and he looks to be on a good mark. He ran two good races as a juvenile; a promising second on his debut at Salisbury, which was followed up with a good maiden win at Newmarket. The form of the latter event was given a fillip with victories for the runner up (who was two lengths behind our selection), third and fourth placed horses. His seasonal debut was in a listed race and although ran down the field he is obviously well regarded and he can win today now he is in an easier grade of race.
