Today's Follow The Money comes from the meetings at Beverley and Goodwood...
We start at Beverley for their first race at 13:45 - the 5f Maiden Stakes - where the current favourite Grand Beauty has been on the drift from a low of 1.9720/21 out to a current price of 2.35/4. Having her first run for Robert Cowell since leaving Richard Fahey she was disappointing last month when beaten favourite after tiring badly in the closing stages over this distance. With Mick Channon's runner Exentricity being well backed the market suggest she is the likely winner and we should be laying Grand Beauty at a short price today.
Over to Goodwood at 14:00 for the 7f Group 3 contest where plenty of money has come for the Mark Johnston-trained Fireglow - 5.14/1 in to 4.216/5. This progressive filly won a listed event last month and followed up with a creditable second place behind Blue Bayou in a Group 3 at Newmarket. Her breeding indicates this ground should be no problem and Mark Johnston holds a 14% strike rate with his two-year-olds at Goodwood, and the market indicates he might add to this today.
Today's banker could well be Raw Impulse who runs in the 16:50 1m1f Handicap Stakes at Goodwood. Over 75% of the total market has been traded on the Clive Cox runner who has shortened from 3.3512/5 in to 2.77/4. The ground will be no problem as he won on soft at Nottingham back in May. He returned after a break to run a very good second on his handicap debut at Newmarket in July with the winner that day dead heating at York last week. Only 3lb higher now, this lightly-raced colt looks sure to have plenty of further improvement and the weight of money suggests he's a likely winner today.
Lay Grand Beauty @ 2.35/4 in the 13:45 at Beverley
Back Fireglow @ 4.216/5 in the 14:00 at Goodwood
Back Raw Impulse @ 2.77/4 in the 16:50 at Goodwood
