Back Ballyglasheen @ 4.94/1 in the 15:45 at Newton Abbot
Lay Zama Zama @ 3.1511/5 in the 16:55 at Newton Abbot

Starting with the 14:45 2m1f Maiden Hurdle and it's No Win No Fee that has attracted all the support, now trading at 3.814/5 after previously being available at 6.411/2. Dr Richard Newland's recent recruit from the flat sphere looks the one to be with here after a promising recent debut over timber at Stratford. He had no chance with the winner that day, a very smart John Ferguson prospect sent off at long odds-on, but jumped the obstacles fluently enough and finished well clear of the rest. This is an easier task with none of his rivals particularly standing out, plus the cut in the ground should suit as he has a heavy ground flat win to his name so with overwhelming market support behind him he rates a confident selection.

Moving on to the 15:45 2m2f Handicap Hurdle now and Ballyglasheen has been the subject of eye-catching early money having been punted in to 4.94/1 from 7.36. Gambles from this yard are usually worthy of serious consideration and this classy young hurdler makes plenty of appeal for this contest. The 5-year-old ran a blinder in the valuable Grade 3 Swinton Hurdle at Haydock, finishing a close 4th, and a reproduction of that form seems probable as he's running off the same mark with a 10lb claimer in the saddle taking more weight off. The gelding had a recent spin on the flat which should have sharpened him up nicely and is proven with cut in the ground so a big run is eagerly anticipated.

Finally to the 2m5f Handicap at 16:55 in which Zama Zama has weakened in the betting from 2.568/5 out to 3.1511/5. Evan Williams' 8-year-old seems to have finally got the hang of things over fences winning his last two at this track but today could be when the fun stops. The gelding has gone up a stone now since finishing second at Ffos Las last month and the step back up in trip on more tiring ground, plus two runs already in the last fortnight, means this could be a step too far. He shoulders the welter burden of 12st 4lbs, conceding 15lbs to the well-backed Ferguson horse, Maltrows Lady, and looks best left alone today.
