Today's Follow The Money comes from the meetings at Newton Abbot and Redcar...
Our first selection comes in the 14:50 at Newton Abbot where Rum And Butter has been nicely backed, into a price of 5.04/1 from a high of 8.27/1. He's been out of sorts for the last year or so but has slipped to a dangerous mark and drops in grade today. He is 3/3 over today's course and distance including this race in 2013 and generally shows his best form in the summer. Barry Geraghty takes the ride for new boss JP McManus and the market suggests Rum And Butter is about to leave his recent form well behind.
Next up is the 15:05 Redcar where Compton River has been uneasy this morning, out to 4.216/5 having been matched as low as 3.32. Still a maiden after 12 starts, Bryan Smart's 3yo has been beaten in handicaps off similar marks three times already this season and looks worth opposing again today. The market seems to like the chances of Racing Angel, who was a winner on handicap debut last time out and may be able to defy a 6lb rise.
We finish with the 15:40 Redcar where Commissar has been backed from 5.04/1 into 2.8815/8. Recent winning form is hard to come by in this race but if you can forgive his last run (lost ground having reared leaving stalls) then Commissar's recent handicap form looks pretty solid. He was a winner at Goodwood in June and placed twice after that in Class 3 handicaps at Ripon and Pontefract. A reproduction of any of those efforts would see him go close today.
