Today's Follow The Money selections all run at York...
We start proceedings in the big race, the Group 1 Nunthorpe at 15:40, and we are taking on the monster filly Acapulco. Wesley Ward's superstar has been easy to back this morning drifting out from 2.915/8 to 3.55/2. She made an impressive start on her UK and turf debut, winning the Queen Mary at Ascot very convincingly. But this is only her second start on turf and she's up against some proper Group 1 sprinters today. Juveniles have a great record in this race and she's getting a huge weight allowance off all of her rivals, however without the benefit of Ryan Moore doing the stirring and running on ground softer than she would like we recommend a tentative lay of Acapulco at 3.55/2.
Our first positive runs the next race, the 16:20, which is a maiden over 7f. Godolphin have arguably one of the best backed horses of the day in the shape of Very Talented. Back in from 7.613/2 and currently trading 5.04/1, there also still seems to be plenty of money trying to back him. Run very green on debut at Goodwood, where he was third of 17, he nevertheless out-ran his price of 20/1, and he should come on for that run. With some tasty group entries such as the Dewhurst and Racing Post Trophy we think there's more to come from the Saeed bin Suroor-trained colt and we think it's worth getting involved at 5.04/1.
Our last recommended back runs in the last at 16:55, which is a handicap race over mile. William Haggas has had a great Ebor Festival, banging in four winners from his five runners so far, and he has a well-backed horse here, in the form of Talyani. Matched as high as 8.59, he's been backed all the way in to 6.05/1, accounting for nearly half the market share. The gelding is 3/4 in his career and his only defeat came when he was turned over at odds-on at Chelmsford (a graveyard for many an odds-on shot) back in June. He hacked up in a competitive class 4 handicap at Newmarket at the back end of July and he has been put up 12lb for that, however, Subtle Knife who a distant third that day and has come out and won since so the form is working out well. With the trainer in cracking form and this horse still on an upward curve, a back of Talyani is the call.
