Follow The Money: Boy is a back at Newbury

Saeed bin Suroor's string is in good form but we are opposing his filly Winters Moon today

Today's Follow The Money comes from the meetings at Ayr and Newbury.

"The firmer ground today should suit better than on his return at Musselburgh where he came third out of six on soft going 14 days ago."

Back Robot Boy @ 3.39/4 in the 15:55 at Newbury

We start with our first positive of the day which comes in the 14:00 Handicap Hurdle at Ayr. Our selection, Work In Progress, is trading at 4.03/1 having started at an early price of 5.79/2. This Dan Skelton-trained gelding is lightly-raced and during its last two races has shown good form when taking second place at Doncaster and also before falling at the final obstacle at Sandown when it was also in second place. The market support is very encouraging while the drift on closest rival in the betting Jack Steel could be significant. On top of this the yard is in decent form with a 27% strike rate in recent weeks so we are recommending a back.

Next up we are off to Newbury for our lay of the day. Here we are going to oppose Winters Moon who has drifted out to 3.3512/5 from 2.41 in betting on the 14:50. This three-year-old filly's form has certainly been encouraging with a third in a Group 1 mile race at Newmarket last year along alongside a debut win on the same track earlier in the season. However, when you look at the Group 1 race result there are still uncertainties over the reliability of the form that day. Combined with a step up in trip to 1m2f we feel there are enough doubts to oppose Winters Moon. The fact that owner Saeed Bin Suroor is in such great form only makes the drift seem more noteworthy and with plenty of support for market rival Ooty Hill we are going with a lay.

Lastly we stay at Newbury for our second back in 15:55 where we are recommending Robot Boy. It has been well backed all morning and is now trading at 3.39/4 from an initial price of 4.47/2. This five-year-old gelding from the David Barron yard was a steady improver last year picking up two wins over the distance at Newcastle and Musselburgh. The firmer ground today should suit better than on his return at Musselburgh where he came third out of six on soft going 14 days ago. He will have his work cut out up against two previous winners of the race in Noble Storm and Lucky Beggar, but with the market fancying his chances we are suggesting a back.
