The markets have been reviewed, and today's three Follow The Money selections come from the meetings at Lingfield and Musselburgh...
We start at Musselburgh for the 14:25 Balmoral Cup Handicap over 1m6f and can report that the money is starting to come for Irish raider Bayan, representing shrewd trainer Gordon Elliott.
Positive in the market having moved from 5.49/2 in to 4.216/5 in early trades this useful dual purpose performer was last seen on these shores when winning the lucrative Ladbroke Hurdle at Ascot at Christmas. A disappointing run over hurdles at Auteuil, on unsuitable heavy ground, would at least have kept him fit and a flat mark of 87 looks well within his grasp. In any case, the market support for Bayan shouldn't be ignored and a back bet is the call.
Godolphin look like they could have a real strangle hold on the All-weather Championship races today. With three runners lining up in the famous Royal Blue silks in the 14:40 3 Year Old Mile Championship it is perhaps little wonder that Lexington Times is taking a walk in our market.
Representing another powerhouse in the form of Richard's Hannon and Hughes, our selection was a very warm proposition for this race in early trading and looked likely to go off as race favourite. However, the drift from 2.6813/8 out to 3.45 is starting to gain pace in the face of strong support for Tempus Temporis (one of the afore-mentioned Godolphin battalion) who is also top rated by our Timeform colleagues. Aside from those two runners, and befitting of a race worth 150k, there is plenty of depth to this race. It seems sensible in the face of the drift to take Lexington Times as our lay and have the rest of the field running for us.
The 3-Year-Old AW Championship Sprint at 16:15 has seen solid support for Blue Aegean who has moved strongly in our market from 12.011/1 in to 8.07/1.
We think the market support particularly significant with fellow Godolphin stable mate, and current race favourite Portamento on the drift. Blue Aegean arrives in very good form having won her last race, over today's course and distance in taking fashion a fortnight ago. We are expecting further improvement from this speedy filly and she should run well at a still decent price.
