Follow The Money: The Quarterjack is one to back at Bath

Two of today's bets run at Bath

Today's Follow The Money selections come from the meetings at Wolverhampton and Bath.

Lay Red Cape @ 3.1511/5 in the 14:20 at Wolverhampton

Back Vincentti @ 6.611/2 in the 15:00 at Bath

Back The Quarterjack @ 5.69/2 in the 16:00 at Bath

We start things off with today's lay which comes in the 14:20 at Wolverhampton where Red Cape has been very weak in the market, drifting from an early 2.747/4 out to 3.1511/5. Having won last time out he is in good form but has only managed to score back-to-back wins on one occasion in his career. The main reason for the drift appears to be the heavy support for the David Nicholls-trained Come On Dave. In rude health at the moment he also comes off a win and unlike the 11-year-old Red Cape has much more room for progress at the age of five and perhaps a fitness edge, too. We are happy to take on the older horse for these reasons and 3.1511/5 looks a very tempting lay price.

Our first back bet comes in the 15:00 at Bath where Ron Harris' Vincentti has been well backed from an opening mark of 8.615/2 in to a current position of 6.611/2. After a very promising two-year-old campaign he struggled to maintain that form, as many horses do, as a 3yo. There have been signs of a revival on the flat of late with some reasonably solid efforts in his last three outings on the all-weather. He returns to the turf today, where his best form has been found and the soft ground is also in his favour. If he can find anything near the form that saw him go down by a nose to Movista off of a one pound lower weight in May 2013 (Moviesta now rated 113), that a mark of 78 today could be very lenient. The punters have latched onto this but there still looks a bit of value in his price.

Finally, in the 16:00 at Bath, we have Ron Hodges' The Quarterjack, who has been very strong in the market (moving from 9.69 in to 5.69/2). The obvious starting point for the positive move would be that he returns to the scene of two of his three wins today with the soft ground a positive. Having won off of a mark of 69 before, he should be fairly handicapped off today's mark of 63. Jockey Richard Kingscote looks an interesting booking and in a race where many struggle to get their head in front, the money has come for him to prove he is a course specialist.
