Lay Southfield Theatre @ 1.910/11 - 13:45 Wincanton

Back Ely Brown @ 3.02/1 - 14:05 Aintree

Back Scots Gaelic @ 9.89/1 - 15:15 Aintree

Our first Selection is our lay of the day. It runs in the 13:45 at Wincanton. Southfield Theatre has drifted from a low of 1.558/15 right out to 1.910/11. In a Novice hurdle which won't take much winning the drift is alarming with a horse of his form and ability. Paul Nicholls had a bad day at the office by his high standards yesterday, failing to score with seven runners, most of them having their first run of the season. With Nicholls excellent record at the course the drift can only suggest his charge my need the run today. The only danger may be the bang in form Emma Lavelle who runs Padre Tito which interestingly has been nibbled at in the market. We think there may be value laying the selection at the price.

We switch to Aintree's 14:05 for the first recommended back of the day where Ely Brown has been back from 3.63 in to 3.02/1. There's no surprise why this horse has been backed with many positives, one being Charlie Longsdon's fantastic start to the season. The horse won the race last year with Lovcen a long way behind in fifth. His pilot (well-regarded apprentice Charlie Deutsch) takes 10lb off his back so he's in theory on the same mark. With question marks over his rivals today, the market support would indicate a repeat of last year.

Our third and final mover runs in Aintree's 15:15, where in a tricky looking handicap hurdle Scots Gaelic has been backed from 12.5 into 9.89/1. The ex Pat Flynn trained gelding has some pretty decent form in Ireland on soft/heavy ground last season, on the flat and over hurdles notably a creditable second to Foildubh in a competitive two mile hurdle at Tipperary. Now with John Quinn, the horse had a pipe opener at York at the begining of the month so he should be fit and well for his seasonal bow over the sticks. The money would suggest that the conditions and trip will suit as well.
