Back Scamperdale @ 8.27/1 Wolverhampton 17:35

On a day with limited opportunities to put up a negative, we start with the 1m 6f handicap at 15:05 in which Alborz has drifted from 3.814/5 out to 4.94/1. The major doubt here is the gelding's ability to handle this quick surface given that all his best turf form has been with give in the ground. If we add the fact that he has just one place from four efforts in Class 5 races and that trainer Tim Vaughan has had just the one win from his last 20 runners, we are going to take on Alborz today.

Our next selection is Red Somerset in the Seller at 16:05 who has cemented his place at the head of the market, shortening from a high of 2.3411/8 in to 1.824/5. The gelding has won or been placed in all his 14 starts in selling or claiming company and with just three rivals to beat - one of which has not shown any real form for almost a year and another who hasn't visited the winners enclosure in his last 23 starts - it is difficult to get away from Mike Murphy's charge.

We jump to the finale for our last selection which comes in the shape of Scamperdale in the 17:35 who has seen sustained support from 12.5 in to 8.27/1. This 11-year-old hasn't finished in front for almost two years but the manner of his close second last time and with today's mark being 19lbs lower than when last successful, everything points to backers landing the spoils today.
