The Follow The Money team head to Chester, Sandown and Thirsk for today's two backs and a lay...
Starting at Thirsk for today's negative in the 14:10 Maiden, where we have seen a dramatic drift on Rock N Roll Star. Matched for solid money earlier at the 3.1511/5 mark, the selection is now available at 4.1, and perhaps even more significantly, has been deposed as favourite by the extremely well backed Good Value. Trainer Charlie Hills must think a lot of Rock N Roll Star as he holds some eye-catching group race entries. However this race has attracted a host of the top stables with fancy looking entries to their name too. The market is often the best guide to races of this nature, and unless significant money is seen later on for Rock N Roll Star, we think he'll get beaten today.
Moving on to Chester for the 15:00 7f class 3 handicap, where we have seen a solid move for The Confessor, who has moved from 12.011/1 in to a still very tempting 7.26/1. Just 1lb higher than his last win at Newmarket in June, this inmate of Henry Candy will have a great chance, with the plum draw on this tricky course from stall 1. Front-runners tend to have a distinct advantage at Chester. The course is on the turn throughout, with a very short run in, so if Jockey Cathy Gannon can use the draw to get our selection out and wind the race up from the front, The Confessor should prove difficult to pass and rates as a solid back selection.
Our final selection today can be found in the class 3 handicap at Sandown at 15:55. One of the best backed horses of the day, from the stable of red hot master trainer John Gosden, Breden was bought at all prices from 4.1 down to a current mark of 2.915/8. This blue blooded son of French 2000 Guineas and Derby hero Shamardal is on a hat-trick today, and looks to be improving after wins at Kempton at Newmarket. Stable jockey William Buick is on pilot duty, and now the money is down, it would rate as somewhat of a shock if Breden wasn't on the premises at the business end of this race. Back is the call.
