Today's Follow the Money comes from the cards at Hexham, Pontefract and Worcester...
We start at Hexham and the selling hurdle at 14:30 in which Descaro tries his luck at this level for the fourth time in 17 days. The gelding's previous three efforts have resulted in a win and two seconds and there is very little in this race rated close enough and/or in the sort of form to worry him this afternoon. For those reasons, the currently available price of 2.166/5, from a high of 2.56/4, is fair enough.
Moving to Worcester now and the day's negative which come in the shape of Emerald Glade in the 15:50 who has drifted somewhat spectacularly from 2.1411/10 out to 3.55/2. This mare runs for the first time for the Jim Best stable having moved from another shrewd handler (Alan Jones) but not even the assistance of A P McCoy appears to be able to negate the weakness. Beaten out of sight on all her previous runs, Emerald Glade then had the race at her mercy at Taunton in early April before running out at the last. The champion jockey will need to be at his very best today but we suspect that even that may well not be enough for her to break her maiden tag.
Our final mover comes on the flat at Pontefract and in the 6f handicap at 17:10 My Name Is Rio has been supported from 8.88/1 in to 5.79/2. The fact that there has been money for Michael Dod's charge and that this one was taken out at Ayr yesterday sets the alarm bells ringing and with this being a slight drop in class from last time, we are happy to put this one as our bigger price recommendation.
