The markets have been reviewed, and today's three Follow The Money selections come from the meetings at Hexham and Plumpton...
We start at Hexham where Persian Herald has been easy to back in the 2m4f Handicap Hurdle at 15:40, now trading at 4.47/2 from an early 3.412/5. This grey has shown improved form since being claimed and sent to Sue Smith, including when narrowly denied at Newcastle last time out. However he has a further half a mile to travel today, a trip he has no winning form over, and combined with the heavy ground he may find others staying on to better effect. In a competitive looking field with opposition coming in the shape of One For Harry, the vibes indicate he can be taken on today.
We go to Plumpton for our first positive where Hot Whiskey has been backed from 13.012/1 to 5.04/1 in the 3m1f Handicap Hurdle at 16:20. This Harry Redknapp-owned gelding was pulled up in heavy ground on his return from a break last month and then ran respectably in a jumpers bumper at Kempton before placing last time out at Huntingdon. He steps up a few furlongs today but his previous form suggests that won't inconvenience him and the useful Charlie Deutsch takes off 7lbs. With the money down, he can shed his maiden tag.
For our final selection we stay in East Sussex where there has been significant support Major Martin in the 2m2f Handicap Hurdle at 17:20, now available to back at 9.08/1 having been 21.020/1 previously. This five-year-old hasn't shown much on the course, weakening to be well-beaten on his last two runs over slightly further, and carries top weight here. However he has had a break since his last run in November and is switched to the stable of Gary Moore for his handicap debut here, with Joshua Moore having a 23% strike rate when on his father's mounts at the course. With the stable also saddling current favourite Galiotto, the move suggests an improved showing is expected.
