Today's Follow the Money comes from Sandown, Yarmouth and Bath...
We start at Sandown and in the 14:30 where Snow Squall has been strongly supported from an opening price of 3.39/4 in to 2.47/5. Mark Johnston's runner justified strong market support last week when winning in an impressive time at Hamilton. He is stepping back up in class today but the easy manner of his victory suggests a 6lb penalty will not be enough to stop him registering another victory.
Today's negative comes from Yarmouth and in the 15:15 where Leaderene has drifted from 1.51/2 out to 1.738/11. A step up in trip and a change of tactics on her last two runs has seen a big improvement in form for Mark Johnston's filly. She won her first race at Lingfield eight days ago where she made all the running, and similar tactics almost paid off the time before where she finished second at the same track.
We are opposing her today as we feel she won't have an easy time upfront and could get taken on for the lead by Corn Maiden who also likes to front run. Her last two efforts have been on the all weather and she now needs to prove she can show the same form on turf. This is also the first time she has taken on older horses, so at such short prices we are happy to take her on this afternoon.
Our final pick is in the 17:40 from Bath where Freddy Q has been well backed from 4.94/1 in to 3.39/4. We were encouraged by his first run for his new yard at Salisbury last month and he was a positive market mover that day but he found trouble in-running and could only finish fifth. He is on a long losing run and therefore has taken a big drop in the weights so we think he is capable of winning off his current mark, and with today's fast ground also in his favour we are happy to give him another chance.
