Follow The Money: Pyro is a hot bet at Thirsk

We're laying Goodwood Storm in the 16:00 at Yarmouth

Today's Follow The Money brings recommended bets from races at Yarmouth and Thirsk.

"Pyrocumulus contests his first ever handicap today and is racing off a mark of just 45. The handicapper may have underestimated him with that rating and punters are clearly keen to get involved with the hope that the promise of his last run, combined with his low weight, could do the trick."

Back Pyrocumulus @ 5.59/2 in the 14:40 at Thirsk

First off in the 14:40 at Thirsk there has been a huge gamble this morning on the Jo Hughes-trained Pyrocumulus. Having been matched for significant money at 10.09/1 (although matched as high as 14.5) he now trades as low as 5.59/2. His first four efforts in maidens were very disappointing before his last appearance at Leicester where he seemed to travel very well before weakening inside the final furlong. He contests his first ever handicap today and is racing off a mark of just 45. The handicapper may have underestimated him with that rating and punters are clearly keen to get involved with the hope that the promise of his last run, combined with his low weight, could do the trick. The money is certainly down and we are hopeful that it will be a classic case of a significant handicap gamble landed later on today.

Our lay of the day comes in the 16:00 at Yarmouth where Goodwood Storm has been very uneasy in the market sliding out from 1.684/6 to 1.875/6. William Knight's filly sets a clear standard on form but today's lay is recommended in main due to her temperament. She has had eight attempts to shed her maiden tag so far but has always failed to deliver the goods despite being found some seemingly good opportunities. She threw away her chance in the final furlong last time out at Lingfield, hanging left across the track when in control of the race. Goodwood Storm is fast becoming very expensive to follow and as a lay with a relatively low liability she looks very tempting with the drift only confirming punter's suspicions.

Finally in the 16:15 at Thirsk we have another very significant mover in the shape of Mutawathea for the Richard Hannon yard. Matched at a high of 5.69/2 he now trades as low as 3.39/4 with no signs of the gamble curtailing. Despite the mile handicap looking a good event on paper the money has been relentless with punters clearly taking the opinion that the morning price on Mutawathea was far too generous to let pass. He had a good win on his return as a three-year-old in April at Lingfield and progressed again to finish second in a very competitive looking Sandown handicap in July. Mutawathea disappointed last time out at Newbury after that but that was on unfavoured soft ground and he wouldn't be the first to bounce back from that race as he had Safety Check in behind there who has since won two very competitive handicaps at Goodwood and Ascot. With the ground currently racing as good we are expecting Mutawathea to resume his progress and continue Hannon's solid run of form.
