Follow The Money: Punters piling in to Junior at Ascot

There has been a big move on David Pipe's Junior

It's Ascot and Doncaster for the FTM team on this spring Sunday

"The portents are good and the money is down for Junior."

Back Junior @ 7.06/1 in the 16:10 at Ascot

The wheels came off Benefit Cut last time out at Leicester when he was pulled up before the last. Returning from a short break to Ascot, in the 14:30, he has course form on his side but has proved rather difficult to lay at short prices, sliding from 2.265/4 out to 3.211/5. He tops the official ratings but three of his rivals are expected to step up on today's better ground and the percentage call is a lay of the favourite.

There's money around for unraced That Is The Spirit in the 14:45 at Doncaster, a seven furlong 3yo Maiden. Matched at a high of 20.019/1, he now trades around 6.05/1. He changed hands for a good sum as a 2yo, is trained by David O'Meara and ridden by Daniel Tudhope, a combination that came close in yesterday's Lincoln. That's all we know about our selection. He would seem to have a very strong favourite to beat, as the others are quite weak in the betting.

Junior is a favourite of the David Pipe stable and FTM followers with long memories (he landed a monster gamble at the Cheltenham Festival three years ago). He's won only once since then - a small field Chase at Newcastle - but did win a big-field race, on good ground, once at Ascot. And, of course, with his advancing years, has a sliding handicap mark.  So the portents are good and the money is down, from 14.013/1 in to 7.06/1 in the 16:10 at Ascot. It is a very interesting race, with plenty of competing old favourites, but Junior has risen to the top of the market and is taken to lead them home from the straight.
