Follow The Money: Punters piling in on the Piper at Kempton

Can we finish up with a win under the lights at Kempton?

Today's Follow The Money movers come from Warwick, Southwell and Kempton.

"Piper's Piping may be getting on in years but his last win was off 65 at Southwell, fully 15lbs higher than his rating here. If the money is to be believed then his well-being should not be an issue and if able to defy the long absence then he could make a mockery of this mark."

Back Pipers Piping @ 3.505/2 in the 17:00 at Kempton

We begin today's column at Warwick where Big Society - 3.02/1 out to 3.814/5 - has been easy to back in the 3m1f Handicap Hurdle at 14:50. Tom George's former chaser got back to winning ways by beating a weak field at Newcastle after a period in the doldrums since returning to the smaller obstacles. He's obviously slipped down the weights and that recent win was off a career low mark, however this is a tougher assignment, up 7lbs in a higher class, and more evidence is needed before we can believe he's back on the upgrade. Race-favourite Tidal Dance has been strong in the market so far and hails from the in-form Venetia Williams yard.

In Southwell's 1m Handicap at 15:10 Resolute has been well backed, moving in to 2.0811/10 from 2.747/4. William Haggas' three-year-old proved himself on this surface when running out an easy winner at long odds-on in November and that form has worked out better than expected with the distant runner-up having won since and has been heavily punted for another race on today's card. The selection proved disappointing last time when a beaten favourite at Wolverhampton but this well-bred and potentially progressive type should be able to make amends by landing this contest with only a couple of serious rivals to beat on paper.

Finally there has been a huge gamble later on at Kempton. In the 7f Handicap at 17:00 Pipers Piping now trades at 3.55/2 having earlier matched small amounts at all prices down from 20.019/1. It's a very eye-catching move when you consider that the gelding debuts for a new stable today having not been seen out for almost a year. Now eight, he may be getting on in years but his last win was off 65 at Southwell, fully 15lbs higher than his rating here. If the money is to be believed then his well-being should not be an issue and if able to defy the long absence then he could make a mockery of this mark.
