Today's lay comes in the 16:05 1m handicap at Bath, where Pilates has drifted to 4.47/2 from an early 3.613/5. Mark Johnston's 3yo was sent off favourite for a sprint at Nottingham last week but could only manage third place. The step up to a mile does not look an obvious move given that she has sprinting in her pedigree and there is a lot of money around for two of her rivals today, namely Konzert and North Pole. The latter is bang in form and turns out quickly under a penalty having scored at Brighton a few days ago. All things considered, lay is the call for Pilates today.

Our next selection comes at York in the Listed EBF Galtres Stakes over 1m4f at 16:20, where Our Obsession has been popular with punters and is currently trading at 4.57/2 from 6.25/1. This filly showed a good attitude to win her maiden on soft ground over a mile at Newmarket last year, leaving the impression that she would improve for a step up in trip. This promise was confirmed in July this year when she stayed on powerfully to win a 10.4f handicap here on good to firm ground, going away at the line. She will have to improve to win with the likes of Say in the field but this seems likely given that it is only her fourth start today and the market confidence behind her suggests that she may find the necessary improvement to get her head in front.

We stay at York for our final selection which comes in the 7f handicap at 16:55, where Tartiflette has been well backed from 19.018/1 in to 13.012/1. This 4yo scored at Haydock in April and followed up with good efforts in the Victoria Cup and at Doncaster. However a couple of slightly disappointing efforts have seen her handicap mark fall to 90, just one pound higher than her last winning mark. Her trainer Ed McMahon has his horses in good order at present and the addition of first time blinkers may help this capable filly get back to winning ways today.
