For today's Follow The Money we go to Sandown and Thirsk.
We start at Thirsk for our lay of the day, Solar View in the 14:40 2m Handicap. Sir Mark Prescott's charge ran out a decent, if a little workmanlike, winner at Catterick on Wednesday and he showed that soft going isn't too much of a problem for him. However, he has a penalty to deal with today and has drifted from 2.486/4 in early exchanges, out to around 3.7511/4, which can be viewed significant. Other positives for layers of Solar View are the early gambles on Byron Blue and Jonny Delta who have both been well backed and are expected to put up a bold show. It seems our lay has a lot more on his plate today, and is taken to find at least one too good for him.
Over to Sandown and the 16:35 1m Handicap for our first positive in the shape of First Post. Backed at as high as 22.021/1, albeit for small stakes, early doors and now trading at 11.521/2 his form this year has a bit of a patchy look to it. However, the handicapper has given him a bit of a break, and he can win this race for the third time if he puts his best foot forward, at a track he clearly loves. First time blinkers could also aid his cause.
Back to Thirsk for our second positive in the 7f Handicap at 16:55. Karaka Jack rates as just about the best backed horse so far today, moving from 8.07/1 in to 4.1, and for decent early money too. Plenty of positives can be gleaned for our selection here. Trainer Dandy Nicholls is in decent form with his sprinters at the moment, and Karaka Jack won off this sort of mark in the spring, the rain softened ground is also a positive, as is the draw. The selection has won in better company than this and can register another win off top weight today.
