Lay Rendl Beach @ 2.915/8 Cheltenham 14:00
Back Sapphire @ 3.814/5 Ascot 14:55
Back Well Painted @ 8.07/1 Ascot 16:45

We start at Cheltenham and in their opening race, a 3m1½f Novices' Hurdle at 14:00 Rendl Beach has eased in the betting slipping out to 2.915/8 from 2.526/4. This looks a competitive looking race with some promising types on show, with the selection one of them. He comes here on the back of a win on his hurdling debut when trouncing rivals at Fontwell 15 days ago but this is a much tougher test today. He may have an advantage in terms of race fitness but a few of his rivals showed arguably better form last season and with some ominous looking money for the Irish raider Our Vinnie he may have to settle for minor honours this time.

Next we go to Ascot which plays host to British Champions Day and whilst all eyes will be on Frankel there could be some money to be made elsewhere on the card. In the 14:55, 1m4f Group 2 for Fillies & Mares there has been decent support for Sapphire who has come in to 3.814/5 from 4.94/1. As you would expect this looks very competitive, but many have something to prove. In Sapphire's case though she has shown a high level of consistency in her three starts this season with two Group 3 wins and a second at Group 1 level; the two wins came over this trip and both on soft ground. She has had a nice break since her last run and will come here fresher than most and that maybe what proves vital today.

Staying at Ascot for our final selection and in the final race on the card at 16:45, a 7f Apprentice Handicap there has been sustained support for William Haggas' Well Painted who has shortened in to 8.07/1 from 14.013/1. He is one of the least exposed runners in this line up having only had three starts all of which came in May and June. He won on debut over today's trip then improved on that form when second over 1m on soft at Donny. He was slightly disappointing last time out where he may not have enjoyed the tight turns at Chester. He has been off since but will be pretty fresh for the time of year and with improvement more than likely a big run could be on the cards today.
