Today's Follow The Money comes from this afternoon's card at Epsom...
We start the day with a lay in the first of the meeting at 14:10, where Fieldsman has drifted all morning. Starting the morning as low as 2.588/5, he is now available to back at 3.259/4. After winning so convincingly last time out it's difficult to see why so many have opposed this one, but perhaps it's due to the strength of today's opposition. Top weight will not help the cause and he faces some serious competition here, with Harlequin Striker going for a hat-trick of wins and perhaps more interestingly Godolphin's Evening Rain who should relish the step up to 7f and has been backed all morning. We feel Fieldsman certainly has a bright future but may run in to one or two that are too strong here and the lay is the call.
Next up is our first back where we go to the 15:20, where money has come for Merry Me. Taking a tumble in the market from 5.95/1 he is now a steady favourite at 4.216/5. With two wins from his last three runs you certainly can't fault the form of Andrew Balding's 3yo, with his last run a respectable third when beaten under a length by Gm Hopkins who went on to win the Silver Cambridgeshire at Newmarket. He finished ahead of the re-opposing Between Wickets last time and is fancied to confirm placings despite the slight pull at the weights and more improvement is expected from him. It's also worth noting that Jim Crowley takes over the ride again today having been successful on him for them last two victories prior to his last run, when a claimer was on board, and he certainly looks the one to beat if he continues to improve.
Lastly we look to back Brocklebank in the 17:40 at Epsom. The morning gamble has taken Simon Dow's charge from 13.012/1 down to 8.415/2. A winless streak for this one dates back to September last year when winning over course and distance and he has put in several disappointing efforts since that victory. With that said though, confidence can be taken from his last run when making up a lot of ground from the rear to finish just over a couple of lengths off the winner Aqua Ardens, who re-opposed today off a 4lb higher mark. This is no doubt a tough looking handicap to win but Brocklebank looks well weighted today and if he can build on his latest effort then he should be in with a decent chance of returning to the winners' enclosure here at Epsom.
