Follow The Money: Big market move for Johnston's gelding at Ayr

We start today's bets with Mark Johnston's Hajras

Today's Follow The Money Movers come from the meetings at Ayr and Newbury.

"Hajras returns from a long absence due to injury after some strong performances last year, and has since been gelded so the market was always likely to prove highly informative and the early money suggests he has every chance."

Back Hajras @ 5.39/2 Ayr 14:05

We start today's Follow The Money column at Ayr where Hajras has been backed dramatically in the 14:05 1m2f Listed contest - now 5.39/2 to back after previously being available at 7.413/2. Mark Johnston's four-year-old returns from a long absence due to injury after some strong performances last year, and has since been gelded so the market was always likely to prove highly informative and the early money suggests he has every chance. He won a couple of competitive handicaps at Ascot and Newbury before handling soft ground well enough at Newmarket, emphasizing his versatility, and if able to build on his progressive profile then this valuable prize is well within his capabilities.

At Newbury, Shamshon has wandered out to 3.814/5 after earlier trading at 2.962/1 in the 6f Group 2 at 14:20. Richard Hannon's expensive colt is unbeaten after two starts and looks a nice prospect. He has looked the part in smooth successes at Sandown and Deauville but steps up to Group company here for his toughest challenge to date. Both wins came on good ground over 5f so he also has to prove himself over a longer trip on much more testing underfoot conditions. Hannon is confident but Richard Hughes rides Anticipated and punters are reluctant to trust this one at short odds.

Later on at Ayr Valonia has been well supported in to 3.55 from 5.54 for the 6f Group 3 2yo fillies race at 15:15.
The form of her two races this summer has worked out well and although this represents a step up in class she has several Group 1 entries so is obviously held in the highest regard by connections and open to any amount of improvement. She was narrowly beaten by the smart Qawaasem at Newmarket and then went on to win a decent Goodwood maiden with a couple of today's line-up left trailing in her wake. Trainer Henry Candy does not seem concerned by the ground and major market rival Remember You has been weak in the betting.
