Follow The Money: Magic can wow us at Carlisle

It's all about the jumps today

Today's Follow The Money comes from Ludlow, Carlisle and Southwell.

"Punters may remember The Magic Bishop's last success was here at Carlisle, albeit two years ago, and the drop in distance shouldn't pose too many question marks having also triumphed over 2m4f before."

Back The Magic Bishop @ 5.69/2 in the 14:50 at Carlisle

We start the day with a lay where Java Rose is uneasy in the market in the 14:40 at Ludlow. Starting at a low of 2.111/10 this one has drifted out nearly a point to 2.89/5. Strong in the market last time out when winning well on her reappearance over hurdles has come at a cost of a rise in the weights in what looks a tougher looking affair and that could hinder her chances. The preference in today's field is for Catherines Well who finished a clear second when beaten by a good looking horse at Taunton and should go one better here with the weights in her favour. At a short price we are happy to mark Java Rose up as the lay in this competitive looking race.

Next up we look at the 14:50 at Carlisle where The Magic Bishop has been strong in the market. A gamble has seen this one tumble from 10.519/2 all the way down to 5.69/2. After a short break the horse made his reappearance when finishing a creditable fourth in a better class race at Hexham. A step down in class here should see The Magic Bishop come on from that last run and is perhaps the reason for the market move. Punters may also remember the nine-year-old's last success was here at Carlisle, albeit two years ago, and the drop in distance shouldn't pose too many question marks having also triumphed over 2m4f before. This one looks in a good position to get back in to the winners' enclosure and a back is the call.

Lastly we head over to Southwell for the 15:00 where there has been support for Monbeg Theatre. Down in price from a high of 7.413/2 he can now be backed at 5.24/1. A good looking prospect from the Jamie Snowden yard he could have done no better over the three bumper races he has contested, winning one and placing in the other two. A tongue tie fitted today is interesting and could prove significant, as could the market support for this one on his hurdling debut. The trip of 2m isn't a negative having contested bumpers over 2m1f and there are a few reasons here that point to the direction of a successful hurdling campaign so a back bet is again the call.
