The Durham National is the big race of the day at Sedgefield and the Follow The Money team have noted some sustained support for one of the runners. Here are today's three selections...
Our first positive of the day is Leonard Thomas who runs in the 14:20 at Lingfield and after initially trading at 5.39/2, he has now come into 3.211/5.
A winner on debut at Kempton he followed up that effort with a solid second in a handicap over 1m here last time out, just behind The Great Gabrial who was racing off 73. The Great Gabrial is now rated 85 so if Leonard Thomas can improve in the same vein, he could be well handicapped today as the least exposed of the runners. He has had a lengthy absence since that run to overcome but with the money coming for him we can assume he is fit and ready to go. George Baker's booking is another positive and he is a confident selection to get us off to a flyer.
Next up we are off to Sedgefield for our lay, where we are going to oppose Night In Milan in the 14:30. After early favouritism at 2.6413/8 the horse has taken a walk in the market out to 3.211/5.
Keith Reveley's progressive chaser took a steep climb in the ratings last season but perhaps more significantly has never won on his seasonal reappearance. These factors coupled with the second favourite Grape Tree Flame being strongly backed has given us reason to be confident in our lay.
Our second back is Royale Knight in the Durham National (15:00) at Sedgefield. This ultra-consistent eight-year-old (placed in 12 out of 16 career chase starts) has been solidly supported in from 7.06/1 to 4.13 in this handicap chase.
Dr Richard Newland has worked his magic on the selection since he joined the yard in 2012, winning seven races since his arrival. His handicap mark has risen accordingly but his excellent handler believes he has another good race in him and as an out and out stayer, suited by decent ground, today's conditions should bring out the best in him. The stable are in excellent form with four winners from 13 runners in October and are sure to have him spot on for this big prize after appearing to have used a recent hurdles run to bring him to his peak.
