Today's Follow The Money selections come from the meetings at Lingfield, Cheltenham and Uttoxeter...
We start at Lingfield for our biggest move of the day in the 14:00 class 5 Maiden over 1m. Godolphin have two runners in this race both of who are representing trainer Charlie Appleby and the market moves make for interesting reading. If the early money counts for anything, and it so often does, then the unraced Festive Fare is set to run a cracker, while twice-raced stablemate Pathway To Honour has been a huge drifter.
As ever in Maiden races there is very little form to go on, so market moves are all the more significant in telling us about the confidence of the stable in their runners. Festive Fare has been backed off the boards from 8.07/1 in to 2.8415/8 and we will take the hint and recommend that as our first back of the day. We should also report that Pathway To Honour does still cling on to favouritism, but the drift from 1.768/11 out to 2.68/5 is off-putting enough for us to side with Festive Fare as a confident selection.
It's over to National Hunt HQ at Cheltenham now for the 2m5f Handicap Chase at 14:25. Our second back of the day at a more speculative price of 10.09/1 from a high of 20.019/1 is Tap Night for in form trainer Lucinda Russell.
In at the bottom of the handicap and with his last three runs over hurdles, our selection's chances are somewhat hard to quantify. Though looking back through his previous runs it is encouraging to see that he was third in this race last year off a mark 12lb higher than today's. With the money down it seems that a big run is expected and Tom O'Brien gets the leg up.
Just five runners line up for the 15:25 2m4f handicap chase at Uttoxeter and all can be given a chance. Our lay, and early favourite Marie Des Anges has drifted significantly from 2.3411/8 out to 3.613/5 with no sign that the drift is going to end any time soon. Harry's Farewell now edges favouritism having been well backed, and perhaps it is significant that Winston Churchill lines up to race on what is the 50th anniversary of the death of his namesake today.
Jonjo O'Neill's stable is showing encouraging signs after a disaster of a season so far so his Less Time can also get competitive. With so many dangers in the race coupled with a drift of that magnitude a lay of Marie Des Anges seems the most sensible call.
