Today's Follow The Money bets run at Leicester and Kempton.
"The money indicates the recently gelded Fast Or Free can get off the mark.
We start at Leicester where Sairaam has been supported from 18.5 in to 8.415/2 in the opening Handicap at 14:00. This six-year-old was last seen when finishing 10th in a field of 11 at Wolverhampton back in March and hasn't registered a victory for approaching two years. However, the mare has frequently gone well at today's course, including when a neck second off the same mark in this contest last year, and will be well suited by the quick turf as opposed to the all-weather surface she encountered last time out. With jockey Cathy Gannon recording a 33% strike rate of late, the move indicates this Charles Smith-trained runner can record a long overdue success.
We move to Kempton for our next selection where Fast Or Free has been backed to win the Maiden Stakes at 14:45, now trading at 3.02/1 from an early 5.14/1. Related to several winners, he showed promise on his only racecourse appearance to date, showing up for a long way before weakening into sixth in a Newmarket Maiden last October. In-form trainer William Haggas seems to have found him an easier opening here and with Champion Jockey Paul Hanagan booked the money indicates the recently gelded three-year-old can get off the mark.
We head back to the Midlands for today's negative where the Richard Hannon-trained Pilgrims Rest has been easy to back in the Handicap at 15:30, now available at 3.02/1 having been as low as 2.3411/8. This three-year-old made a successful seasonal bow at Newbury ten days ago and could well be capable of better. However, that win came on Good to Soft ground and he will encounter vastly different conditions today as well as having to cope with a 9lb rise in the weights. Although only up against three rivals they all look capable of improvement and may cause this Rock Of Gibraltar-colt some problems. The drift suggests he should be opposed.
