The Follow The Money team have their eyes firmly peeled on Goodwood this afternoon with all three of their selections coming from the Sussex venue...
We start in the opening race, a 1m2f Handicap at 13:55 where Sir Michael Stoute's Stomachion has been a heavy drifter this morning and is now trading at around 8.615/2 from 6.611/2.
Although he comes in to this race in good form following a win at Newmarket in May and a creditable second at Epsom on Derby Day in June last time out, he has risen 3lbs for his latest effort and as his jockey Ryan Moore admits in his column he is also not ideally drawn in stall 13. His hold up style of running means his chances will be highly reliant on getting some luck in running, something notoriously hard to come by at Goodwood and in a very competitive race a place lay is the call at 2.727/4 out from 2.1411/10.
Next we move to the 16:50 Handicap where Skytrain has been supported from 19.5 in to 15.014/1.
After notching up seven wins in 2013, Mark Johnston's four-year-old hasn't had the best of times so far this season as he is winless from 10 attempts since scoring in a Wolverhampton handicap in April. As a result the handicapper has given him a chance however, and he comes in to this race off a 3lb lower mark than his last turf win in August last year. He runs at Goodwood for the first time today and his front-running style and decent draw will give him a chance to dictate the pace to his liking. He will need to find some improvement on his recent form but the money for him suggests that he will and if he can get back to his best he still looks a very tempting price.
Our final selection comes in the last race of the day, a 5f Handicap at 17.20 where Tidal's Baby has been heavily backed, coming in from 16.015/1 to 10.519/2.
Having taken this race last year he is looking for a repeat success today and is ridden once again by Raul Da Silva for the first time since that outing. This five-year-old gelding has started the season slowly but looked to be on the up last time when finishing a close third at Windsor earlier this month and although he is 5lbs higher than last year's success his course and distance form means he is worthy of our consideration today, albeit up against a large field of up and coming sprinters. It is also worth noting that as well as last year's success his stable also took this in 2012 with Time Medicean and he is another who should go well for Follow The Money backers at a decent price today.
