Today's Follow The Money come from the meetings at Lingfield and Wolverhampton.
"The visor combined with the drop in trip could give John Coffey an edge today."
We start with the 14:00 at Lingfield, a 2m3f handicap, where there has been a big gamble on Buddy Love in to [5.5] from [16.0]. On form this plunge is hard to understand - she only has only won once and that was on good to firm at Towcester. Moreover, with 15 runners in the race and tentative form lines this is a particularly difficult one to call. Buddy Love was beaten by 30 lengths last time out at Fontwell on soft ground, so it is not clear that the forecast heavy ground will suit. However, the money suggests a better run is expected, with a change of jockey perhaps making the difference.
Over to Wolverhampton now where John Coffey has been backed in to [5.3] from [7.2] in the 5f sprint handicap at 14:20. Although he is still a maiden, he remains relatively unexposed, and finished a close third over 6f at Wolverhampton last time out. The visor combined with the drop in trip could give him an edge today. Front runners do particularly well over this trip, and if the visor helps ensure an early lead he looks to have a reasonable chance of success.
Finally, in the 16:10 at Lingfield, a National Hunt Flat race over 1m5f, the favourite Lurcher has drifted out to [3.6] from [2.38]. This is rare adventure for trainer James Fanshawe and Lurcher makes his debut today. His breeding suggests he should have little problem seeing out the trip, but the forecast heavy ground may make the race tougher particularly for a debutant (though the majority of runners are making their debut today). Rock of Ages ran well on debut and being by Pivotal should handle the surface and may be better value in the race.
